only happy accidents” – Bob Ross
Elisabeth, our daughter, came to visit us over the last week. We had a lovely time celebrating her time spent time with us. Her visit was a blank canvas of opportunities as none of us actually had much of a plan in place.
Jacki booked us for an eclectic Airbnb experience in Frederick. We had dinner in Thurmont at Tavern 10 which was aptly named as it was a ten out of ten dining experience. It had both Vegan and gluten free alternatives. Great pub-like atmosphere with great food. We really had no idea what to experience and literally found this place and decided to eat dinner there as it was the closest dinner place to the AirBnB.

On Saturday morning, Elisabeth asked if we could have a painting party. We had friends joining us Sunday dinner. When we get together, we normally play a game. I’ve heard about folks who get together and drink wine and paint a canvas and I kind of figured that we might be able to do that as an after dinner activity. It’s sort of like playing a game. The rules were pretty simple. We all began with a blank canvas and followed the painting directions given to us through a Bob Ross video.

In the background is the soft spoken Bob Ross, encouraging us onward about what brush or scraper to use, what paints to mix and how to blend to create water ripples, mountain scapes, and happy trees. Bob is attributed to have said. “‘We don’t laugh because we feel good, we feel good because we laugh.” We obviously had a load of fun and a lot of laughs and we felt good.

Our time with Elisabeth quickly came to a close. We started the week before with a blank canvas with few to no plans in place but looking back each moment turned out as it was supposed to play out. Our events and activities, parties, dinners and accommodations all became paint upon our canvas. We weren’t exactly sure how it all would turn out and reflecting upon the last week it turned out amazing. Sometimes you have to plot and plan for a trip to come together and that’s going to be the case in our upcoming trip to Europe. There is also some joy in just going with the flow, fill your week with memories that you hadn’t planned or fretted over and come away thoroughly having enjoyed the journey.

How do you fill your canvas? Are you a go with the flow or do you like to have everything in your life scripted and planned out? Share your thoughts in the comments below and if you enjoyed this, like, subscribe and share with a friend. Peace, M
